FOUNDER & PROJECT EXECUTIVE
Dirk Taylor established Taylor Structural Engineers in February 1996 with the goal of providing the highest quality structural engineering services with creative, economical, and effective engineering design solutions. He successfully led the company for 25 years, and in January 2021 stepped down as President and relinquished his ownership in the company, while remaining on as an employee, advisor, and mentor.
After college, Dirk began his career as a design engineer in 1981 at American Bridge Division of US Steel in Pittsburgh. He then relocated to Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 1984 after accepting an offer from CECO Buildings Division, where he gained valuable experience designing pre-fabricated metal buildings. Family ties brought him back to Pittsburgh in 1989, where he took on the position of Senior Project Engineer at Structural Engineering Corporation. He joined Peter F. Loftus Division of Eichleay Engineers as Structural Department Manager in 1991, where he stayed until venturing out onto his own in 1996.
Dirk holds current licenses in 9 states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, and Virginia. He is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction and the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Structural Engineers Association of Western Pennsylvania.
Dirk studied Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University and received his Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering at West Virginia University.
